Mission Statement
Northern Illinois Lightning TFCC provides affordable cross country and track and field programming to youth of all abilities in the Northern Illinois community, including but not limited to the communities of Loves Park, Machesney Park, Roscoe, Rockton, and South Beloit. Northern Illinois Lightning TFCC is committed to eliminating financial barriers to participation teaching sport fundamentals, fostering community relationships across school boundaries, and promoting the physical and personal development of young athletes.
Our Pillars
Every program that we provide for our community is supported by these pillars
Affordability- It is no secret how costly youth sports have gotten along with the time commitment. NIL wants to make sure financial barriers do not get in the way of a kid participating and making sure that families can still live there lives and not have it centered around our programs.
Community Centered - Our goal is to host meets throughout the year for everyone in the community. We love a good drive to Chicago but want to make sure most of our meets are not too far of a drive. This will be a longer processes but that is why we do not force out of town meets onto families registration cost and allow them to decide.
FUN! - Youth sports should never be some super stressful environment. We want to make our track & field/cross country programs we offer teach kids to have fun while they are exercising. As we want show them a way they can stay fit even when they are older and not apart of school sports.
Fundamental focused - We do not believe we have the "secrets" to track and cross country training. There are too many great coaching philosophies in this area and it would be incredibly ignorant to dismiss them all. We want to continue teaching the fundamentals of a track/cross country athlete
Results never define the athlete - Letting our athletes know that the number that pops up next to there name will never define them. Just competing at all is a huge privilege and we never want them to take that for granted.
